Big Life, REVIEW :: Drama

liberal aliveness, REVIEWThe play/ musical is about a group of down(p) commonwealth coming to England,from the Caribbean islands, in search for a better sample of livingand hopefully to get a good job and catch up with thither. The play justexplains what the different people fork out to put up, and how their lives apply become after coming to England. It shows how they resist women,how they fight off racialism and of how they try to fulfil theiram momentions in England. It is set back in the 1950s, where the countrifiedwas very white- dominated, and English people were not accustomed tohaving people of otherwise cultures around them.It is a very touching musical with that little bit of comedy, addedby Mrs Aphrodite, a member of the audience, talking of her ownexperiences in the 50s. Full of life and music, and very engagingSYNOPSIS The Big Life starts off with all the men, and Sybil comingto England. Sybil and Bernie, who are engaged, break up because Berniethinks that she w as prickteaser with another man. The men all togetherdecide to arrest a pact. This says that they will finish having thingslike cigarettes and alcohol sleep just 4 hours per night fast once aweek and no relationships with women, and make a 5 bet with admiralthat they will stick to what they say. The following scene is in the B&B,where Zulieka, Mary and Kathy are sitting and doing bizarre jobs, whenSybil enters. She tells them of how she broke up with Bernie, and thewomen all decide that they no longer unavoidableness anything to do with men.Meanwhile, the men are on a tube looking at for somewhere to stay, andsomeone mentions the B&B, but Bernie says hed or else sleep on thestreets. They decide in the end to go there and get rooms. The womencontinue to talk of how useless men are. Then in Piccadilly Circus,Admiral and Jacqueline the prostitute are sitting eating chips, whenLennie and Dennis enter, complaining they have still not found a joband how rude people are being to the m. The reverend enters and startspreaching, and Admiral is insulted as he feels he is implying that heplays the devils music, so plays louder.
